What you can edit in a PDF
PDFs are designed to look the same everywhere, which is why they are great for sharing — but it also means you cannot just click into the text like in a Word document. However, you can still make useful edits: add text to blank lines, place notes and labels, draw shapes and lines, and fill in fields that the form provides.
An online PDF editor gives you the tools to annotate and correct a document without converting it or uploading it anywhere.
How to edit a PDF
- Open the editor. Go to Edit PDF. It runs locally in your browser.
- Upload your file. Drop the PDF in or click to browse. It stays on your device.
- Make your edits. Add text, rectangles, ellipses, lines and annotations on any page.
- Download. Save the edited PDF with your changes applied.
Adding and editing text
To fill in a blank line or add a note, place a text box on the page and type. You can move it, resize it and style it to match the document. For existing PDF text, the editor lets you overlay new text where you need it — for example, correcting a date or adding a name on top of a form field.
Drawing shapes and lines
Rectangles and ellipses are handy for highlighting a section, framing a value or marking an area of a diagram. Lines are useful for underlining, striking through or drawing attention to a row. Everything you draw can be moved, resized or removed before you download.
Tip: pair editing with signing. Fill in a form, then add your signature with Sign PDF and protect the final file with Unlock / Protect PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Can I edit the existing text of a PDF?⌄
You can add new text and annotations anywhere on a page. Editing the original words of a PDF is only possible if the document is an editable form; for most PDFs you overlay text rather than rewrite it.
Do I need to install software?⌄
No. The editor works in your browser with no installation and no account.
Will my edits look the same on other devices?⌄
Yes. The edited PDF keeps its layout, so your changes display consistently everywhere.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?⌄
No. Editing happens entirely in your browser, so your document never leaves your device.
